History and Manufacturer of Play Smart Metal Cars

Play Smart is a Chinese brand owned by Shantou Gepai Plastic Industrial Co., Ltd from the city of Shantou (Guangdong Province). The brand appeared in 1993: the company was first registered in Hong Kong, and later production was moved to mainland China.

Initially, Play Smart became known not for cars, but for electronic educational toys — children’s tablets and computers. Over time the range expanded: plastic toys, interactive models and toy cars appeared. Of course, we are interested in the die-cast metal cars in a small scale. And they do exist. The company has released a wonderful series of cars in the liveries of emergency services and the military.

In Russia the trademark was officially registered in 2013 (the application was filed back in 2011). The exclusive rights are valid until 2031. The brand takes localization seriously: all toys are fully adapted for the Russian market, with packaging and instructions translated into Russian.

Production is carried out in large batches using modern technologies. The materials used are food-grade plastic, metal and their combinations, as well as metal casting. All toys are certified and comply with international safety standards.

Among the die-cast cars in 1:64 scale, the inertia-driven models are especially popular and interesting: after being pulled back, they drive on their own. In recent years models equipped with lights, sound and opening doors have also appeared.

The range of themes is very wide: police, ambulance, fire engines, military vehicles (including the KAMAZ “Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”), construction and special equipment (excavators, mobile cranes, concrete mixers, garbage trucks, tow trucks), trucks (KAMAZ, ZIL, Gazelle, UAZ), retro models, sports cars and limousines.
Scales vary from 1:30 to 1:64. The most common are 1:38, 1:43 and 1:50.

Today Play Smart is a major Chinese manufacturer with more than thirty years of history. Cars are only one of many categories, but a rather noticeable one: an affordable segment with decent quality, realistic detailing and useful functions. In Russia the brand is well known and is sold in Detsky Mir, on Ozon, Wildberries and in many other stores.
